EDUC-P631: Theorizing Learning in Context

This is a core Learning Sciences course, required for all graduate students in the Learning Sciences program at Indiana University. Students enrolled in this course have participated in building a website focusing on contributing to the shared work of building learning theory; the site can be viewed here: http://www.iu.edu/~lsmt/theorizing2010/

Below, I’ve included the course description and objectives from the syllabus of the instructor, Joshua Danish.

Course Description

The overarching goal of this course is to explore sociocultural theory in depth as one way of thinking about learning in context.
Objectives:

  • Learn about and come to understand some of the key seminal works in sociocultural theory
  • Think about some specific topics from a sociocultural perspective
  • Think about how to make, support, and critique theoretical claims
  • Think more deeply about how to provide rich, constructive feedback to your peers
  • Bring these multiple elements together into a theoretically grounded proposal to conduct new research

All work here was completed in Spring 2010 at Indiana University.
